Acanthosis Nigricans

In Articles, Medical Dermatology, Medical Treatments

Acanthosis nigricans is characterized by abnormal velvety thickening and darkening of the skin, most commonly around the neck. It can also occur in body creases such as the armpits or groin. Although acanthosis nigricans is frequently a normal, inherited condition, it is also associated with obesity and diabetes. It may be found in people who have more serious underlying health problems or who are taking certain medications.
